PROLOGUE
On Finding Your People (and Your Next Gig)
You know that feeling when you're scrolling LinkedIn at 11 PM, wondering if that "Director of Communications" job at a school three states away is the one? Or when you're happy where you are, but curious what else is out there? Or when a colleague slides into your DMs asking if you know anyone hiring?
Yeah. Me too.
Here's the thing about our corner of the education world: we're a small tribe. School marketing and communications folks are scattered across independent schools, often operating as departments of one (or maybe two, if we're lucky). We're writing crisis communications at breakfast, filming TikToks at lunch, and designing the annual report after dinner. And when it comes time to make a career move? We're often searching in places that don't quite get what we do.
Which is why I'm excited to let you know about something I should've mentioned sooner: we have a jobs board.
It lives at jobs.marcomsociety.org, and it's built specifically for our people. Not generic "marketing jobs." Not "education jobs" that turn out to be teaching positions. These are roles for folks who speak our language—the ones who understand why brand guidelines matter, why stakeholder engagement isn't just a buzzword, and why "can you just make it pop?" makes us twitch.
Whether you're actively looking, casually curious, or trying to help a friend find their next chapter, bookmark it. Share it. Check in on it.
Because finding your people shouldn't be hard. And neither should finding your place.
Thanks,
Brendan

How to Differentiate Your Messaging This Fall
Does your school struggle to answer the question: “What makes us different?”
Independent schools are doing extraordinary work in teaching and learning. But too often, those powerful stories are lost in a sea of sameness. Everyone promises "small classes" and "an inclusive community." But without sharper, more distinct messaging, families can't see why your school is worth choosing over another. We'll tackle this challenge head-on using real-life examples, and you'll walk away with actionable, strategy-driven tools to make your messaging stand out this admission cycle.
