Prologue
As I put the finishing touches on my upcoming book about school marketing, I've been grappling with a crucial question that I believe deserves our collective attention:
How much are schools really investing in their marketing efforts?
Initially, my advice was straightforward: Whatever your current marketing budget is, double or triple it. But I realized this issue deserves a deeper dive.
So, here's what I'm curious about:
What percentage of your school's total annual budget is allocated to marketing?
Here's a quick way to calculate it:
- Take your school's annual budget (e.g., $10,000,000)
- Divide your marketing budget (excluding salaries) by that number (e.g., $100,000)
- Multiply by 100 to get the percentage
In this example, the marketing budget would be 1% of the total budget.
I'd love to hear from you:
- What's your school's marketing budget percentage?
- Do you think it's sufficient?
- How has it changed over the years?
Your insights will not only help shape the discussion in my book but could also spark important conversations about resource allocation in education.
